Two or more years of experience (or discretion of director) Major Scales: C, G, D – one octave, up and down, for all instruments G – two octaves for violin C – two octaves for viola & cello Ability to judge basic intonation – flat, sharp Understanding of whole, half, quarter, eighth and dotted half rhythms Understanding of 4/4, 2/4, and 3/4 time signatures A short solo piece demonstrating level of proficiency—No pop or jazz selections Basic sight-reading Private lessons encouraged, but not required curriculum
