Classroom Expectations
|
In music class, we as a group must be dedicated and focused in order to achieve success for our concerts, as well as fostering our growth as musicians. In order to be the best ensemble we can be, certain expectations must be met by ALL INDIVIDUALS. If even one person is unprepared, acting out, or not following the Washington Way, the class as a whole will struggle to succeed.
We must meet several expectations by both individual students and the group as a whole. This compact is being created to serve as a reminder on what the expectations are in music class and the consequences that will follow if they are not met.
1. Students are to arrive on time to class and be ready to play/sing 5 minutes after the class has started. This means you are seated with your instrument out of the case, have been tuned if necessary, and your music is on your stand. It also means you have your instrument and music EVERY CLASS.
2. During rehearsal, the only talking that should occur is when you are asking your teacher a question or when an active class discussion is taking place. Talking over the teacher or other students is never acceptable.
3. Cell phones are not permitted in class. This is a school wide expectation. Students who are on their cell phones during class miss important information about the lesson and often miss cues in the music or forget to sing/play because they are too distracted. If students have a cell phone out during class without permission, it will be taken and given to the office to be picked up by a parent/guardian.
4. There are no arguments or fighting allowed in class. A musical ensemble is a family and any issues you have with another student are left at the door when you enter. We must work as a group to succeed and this cannot happen if students are starting verbal or physical altercations.
If a student is having trouble following these expectations, a call home will be made to the parents to discuss how to help guide the student to making better choices. If there are further issues after a call home, students will be at risk for being removed from the class, as the musical ensemble cannot succeed if an individual has decided they are not going to be a team player.
